GALLERY BAR

For eight years, GalleryBar met two cosmopolitan needs: a proper watering hole destination for arts crowds and a provocative setting for nightlife enthusiasts. Top-tier visual artists like photographer Mark Weiss and painter Rachel Rickert had works on display accompanied by the upbeat sounds of DJs and electronic popsters like Dubbel Dutch, Cobra Krames and The Knocks. The main floor was wisely laid out with plush seating and floating walls, lit so that the art was visible without sacrificing the atmosphere. Downstairs was a cozier, candle-lit respite, a favorite of bottle service clientele. The Village Voice put it beautifully, “This bar serves as the show and the after-party.”
